Hi Guys and Dolls! So lately there’s been a lot of buzz on twitter and youtube surrounding this new brand, Sugarpill. Sugarpill was founded by the fun and funky Amy, known on Ebay and Etsy as Shrinkle .  I bought from Amy on ebay before, so I know the customer service is good, her makeup line seemed right up my alley, and I relished the idea of reviewing/helping a local business (Sugarpill is practically in my backyard, go Oakland!).

So far, the line has three basic forms of products, Pressed eyeshadow, Loose eyeshadow, and Lashes. Please watch my video later this week for an in-depth review of the products!

Here’s a review and oodles of swatches of a few new (to me) cheapo-palettes I got from a seller on ebay. I’m pretty sure the 42 matte palette is the same one that’s sold on the Coastal Scents site, but the colors are in different order. The 28 smoky palette I haven’t seen anywhere other than this one seller’s Ebay store.  I labeled my palettes to make it easy to explain what colors I  am referring to.

the 42 Matte Eyeshadow &  Blush palette (32 eyeshadows, 10 blushes)

These eyeshadows swatch really vividly and probably look intimidating (or AWESOME, depending on your taste). But on your eye the effect is toned-down. These have a very soft, powdery texture that is easy to blend but can make they colors look muddy. I think these are best for packing on/using a lot of colors rather than blending together as much, since when these are mixed they can look muddy,  and the powdery texture can make the makeup look cakey if you try to build it up too much. These are not super strong in pigmentation, which for those that are color shy might be a plus, but these were somewhat disappointing to me, since I need OOMPH!

Faves? A3, D3, D4, F2, F3, H1,& H2.

I really like the blushes. There’s a lot of pinks, but you can mix the pinks with the other colors and get some nice custom shades. If memory serves (I haven’t used these in over a week) the color pay off was build-able (meaning not too strong, aka not THAT pigmented). The lasting powder was so-so, I think I needed to reapply 1/2 though the day, which is sort of average for blush. Need it just for videos where you can touch up? Perfect.

Faves? A1, A2, C1. D1

I did a few blendy swatched to show how they do blend quite nicely.

28 Smoky eye Palette. This ebay seller is the only place I’ve seen this palette.

This palette has matte, satin, and shimmer eyeshadows in a gradient of greens, taupe/greys, pinks, purples, orange/coppers, and silver to black.  Overall I prefer this to the other palette. The mattes seem a bit I don’t know…drier? They are not very powdery, and while they aren’t SUPER pigmented, they seem to have more pigmentation and less fillers; they just seem like they are pressed harder than the 42 palette eyeshadows. They are build able with out looking cakey.

There are also a few surprising  Dupes in the bunch,(brace yourself!) B2 is a MAC Vex Dupe (very surprising considering how unique Vex is) B3 is kinda-sorta like a pinky version of MAC’s Satin Taupe, C1 is a Milani Illusion Dupe,  D3 is a perfect dupe for MAC’s Hepcat, D4 is MAC’s Passionate & Fig 1’s baby, E2 is similar to MAC’s Mutiny Pigment, E4 is like Electric Eel that was toned down a notch, F1 is a cleaner version of MAC’s Juiced, F4 is a more orange version of MAC’s Coppering, G1 is like MAC’s Electra, and Finally, G4 is a soft-black version of MAC’s Black Tied.

WHEW! All those dupes flying at us, I feel like I just got whiplash! Now before you get all out-of control excited, remember, the shimmer shades are not as buttery-smooth-amazing as their MAC counterparts. MAC really makes some of the finest shimmery shadows around, and to be able to truly dupe them for such a small price is unlikely. But over a black base, theses are really impressive. Luckily, the seller also sent me a “indelible” black “gel” liner, so I used it to swatch some of the shimmer shadow over:

Check out the AWESOMEness of that Vex dupe (bottom left)! It’s so pretty it makes my eye twitch!

The Gel Liner itself I have mixed feeling about. It’s not  totally smear proof, and it stays kind of sticky to the touch, so it won’t be replacing my Lorac Front Of The Line Pro anytime soon,  but it works pretty cool as an eyeshadow base for shimmer eyeshadows and it is waterproof!. They also sent me a little vial of SUPER COOL glitters! They remind me of MAC reflects glitters! This is probably my favorite thing!~

It reminds me of MAC’s Young Punk eyeshadow, but with more colors mixed in!

Who it’s for:  People either just starting out with makeup, or people wanting to experiment with colors and lots of it.  I HIGHLY recommend a sticky base to grab/intensify the colors. the quick looks I did below were done using a non-sticky base (just a concealer I let fully dry) and the results were not amazing. Mind you these were not well planned looks, and they were done really quickly as well. Another thing to keep in mind is that with cheapo palettes, you can break the rules a little and use matte shadows wet. If it ruins the shadow it will probably only be the top layer, and  it was cheap right? Try to only use a small portion of it wet (like half the little pan of e/s). I would also like to note that I used my least fave mascara for this, so if my lashes look weird, that’s why.

The same look with A3 (or A4, I don’t remember) on the lid over B2, and E 3&4 added to the crease.

I think this was mostly the 42 palette, but I did add some of F4 from the smoky palette to jazz this up. This looked pretty bad and I had to alter this one to make it look ok, as you can see, I didn’t even bother to sweep away the fall-out, lol.

MUFE #75- a bright Hot Pink or Fuchsia, try the 88 matte palette, the 120 palette, Medusas’s Makeup Electro pink, and the hot pink from the Harajuku Hunnies Cherry Blossom quadriset are all about the same, or switch it up!

MUFE #99- A true Matte Red. There’s one in the 88 matte palette, but I don’t think there is one in the 120 palette. Any matte red or deeper magenta will work

MAC Chrome Yellow- a super bright matte yellow. There’s dupes in the 120 palette, but you could also use MUFE #2 of #71.

NYX’s Yellow- I didn’t include this in the video because it really doesn’t show up, so it seemed like a pointless step.

NYX White- A super smooth matte white.

MAC Violet Trance Eyeshadow – Matte Blue-toned purple. Try mixing MUFE 92 with BFTE’s Panurple. I’m sure you could come up with a blue-purple color in either the 88 or the 120 palette as well

MAC Pharaoh Paint Pot – A perfect dupe is “lime” from the Mehron Tropical palette

MAC’s Bitter Eyeshadow – A Matte cool-toned Chartreuse. There’s a lot of Chartreuse shades on the market, but most of them are warm-toned. That could totally work too. There’s a lot of dupes in the 120 and 88 palette. I ended up adding the green duo chrome, so MAC’s Chartreuse Pigment,  BFTE’s Lavish or Urban Decay’s Vert would work well too!

Kat Von D Peggy & MAC Cool Heat – I mixed these two colors together to get the shade of teal I wanted.  A great alternative would be BFTE’s Peacock & Ben Nye’s Jade, or just whatever your fave shade of teal is!

Make Up For Ever 92 Eyeshadow – Let’s not kid ourselves, there’s no dupe for this. This is the best purple eyeshadow out there. It can be cool, medium, or warm toned, it’s richly pigmented etc.  The pan is large, so it’s a really good investment, and  if you like purple it is a must-have! Trying to mix colors together to achieve this color would be more expensive that just buying this one color.

MUFE 35 Eyeshadow – This is a matte light Ivory-cream color. I like to use colors like this to soften the edge of my eyeshadow. There’s quite a few dupes for this in the 88 palette, MAC’s Blanc Type is a perfect dupe (I prefer Blanc Type)

BFTE’s Satin Sheets – A low-shimmer white

Trucco Palette White with a green Duo-chrome. Anything like this would work, or switch it up with a pink, purple, or blue duo chrome.

Lorac Front of the Line Pro for the top lash/winged liner/inner corner

Urban Decay 24/7 lIner in “zero” for the waterlines

OK, I’m going to take you though the process of opening the Kat Von D Momento Mori Palette, which is inspired by El Dia De Los Muertos  (aka, the Day of the Dead). I’m totally obsessed with sugar skulls, DOTD, and all that jazz, so I HAD to have this even if I similar thing sin my collection already!  Some of these I have nothing like them, but others I have dupes of, and I’ll post those later. You should never buy makeup just for the packaging, but you have to admit, Kat Von D has some of the CUTEST packaging ever!

the colors in the palette: True ( a cream color base-type thing), Solitude a Dupe for MAC’s Beautiful Iris, over true it’s like Beautiful Iris and Parfait Amour mixed together, Meditation sort of like  Urban Decay’s Scratch and Shag mixed together Agatha Pink low shimmer peach-toned pink, Sugar Skull a really pretty pale yellow gold with a green duochrome, Peggy is an amazing teal with golden reflects, somewhat similar to MAC’s TEAL pigment, or Ben Nye’s Jade Lumiere shadow, Hard Luck is tough to describe, is it a blue toned blackened olive? Is it a blackened green teal? I don’t know, but it’s really pretty and unique to my collection! And Finally Tijuana a Super DUPER pretty black with copper reflects glitter, totally unique, almost worth buying the whole palette for. it reminds me of those MES that make Came out with with I think Style Black. I bought Young Punk, the black with pink reflects glitter. The glitter says with the eyeshadow, which is HUGE!

I know I already talked about the new Sigma brushes in a video, but  since I already took the pictures,  I don’t want them to go to waste. I was also sent their makeup line, so I figured I would review those as well:)

I was really excited to receive the makeup line, since so many people were saying they liked it, and whatnot. These shadows and blushes are sold in pretty generous portions, in little pre-matched kits, so it takes the guess work out of coordinating, and because they are quads they are easy to travel with. They have awesome names like “Start me up”, “Paint it Black”,  (Rolling Stones fan !?)

The Eyeshadows:

I knew from the get-go  from other reviews  that all the eyeshadows had some degree of shimmer, but I thought it would still be ok, since sometimes I like all shimmer, if the shimmer textures are different (Like, satin, frosty, glittery). Maybe I haven’t made this clear in the past, or maybe you’re new to the Peanut Gallery, but I’m a girl who needs balance with her eye makeup. I like differing colors, and textures.  While I’ll admit sometimes I use all shimmery eyeshadows of some form or another, generally they at least have some kind of differing textures.

With the exception of the black,  these all have the same shimmer texture. The eyeshadow is not pressed very hard, so it’s very soft, when you touch your brush to it, a lot flakes off not only wasting products & making a mess, but they have a lot of fall out. Just click on the picture above to enlarge it, and then enlarge it again to see all the fall out just in the swatches.

One other caveat I have with these is that the smoky eye one has a smell; a perfume-y/cheap cosmetic smell. They remind me of old lady department store makeup mixed with one of those Markwins palettes your Grammy would buy you.  While for some of you this is a non-issue, I really am turned off by the smell, and haven’t even attempted to use the smoky eye on my face, which is disappointing, since color& texture-wise, it’s my fave!.  Now you’re probably thinking I’m a freak that sniffs my eyeshadow, but I’m really not, they just smell that strongly.

My question is why even scent something that goes on the eye?

I have to say I’m pretty disappointed with the eyeshadows. It’s not really the colors that are the issue (I’ve been accused in the past of not liking neutrals, which is FAR from the truth. You should see me drool over the Too Faced Natural Eye Kit we sell at Sephora).  It’s just the texture & odor.  A few of them I do think are pretty so I will probably make like, a custom quad with the colors I do like.

The Blushes:

While these are also very powdery and 3 are really glittery, I like these. There is one matte in the bunch (YAY!) and it’s a pleasant pop of blue-pink bubble gum goodness!  Moonlight Mile is the softest, and it’s really fall out-y but it’s really pretty to dust over your face for a gold glow. Some Girls is the budget-friendly version of NAR’s Super Orgasm, and Ruby Tuesday is a great deep raspberry with shimmer. I guess that what didn’t work with the eyeshadows works well for the blushes!

The Look ended up taking a darker turn that my original vision, but I like this much more! It sort of morphed int a Anti-Valentines day look! I know this year tons of Makeup “guru’s” will do pink, purple, and brown V-day looks, so I thought we should have an antidote to that! I will probably also do a V-Day look, maybe with colors form the UD Alice in Wonderland Palette (I didn’t buy it, I just have most of the colors already!

Hi Guys and Dolls! The purpose of this video was to answer all the messages I get from people asking what they should do with makeup if they have less brow to eye crease space, or over all less lid space.  The “Three Section Method” I explain is not the only way you can do your makeup, but it is a good starting point if you’re just starting out and are confused about placement. I know I normally do a cut-crease style one way or the other,  and some of you felt like you couldn’t do your makeup like that, so I want to start doing makeup in different shapes, etc. Keep in mind that the 3 section method is generally less “artistic” or editorial looking. I think in a lot of ways it’s easier, and looks prettier super blended, so whip out those great shader brushes (Sonia Kashuk makes a BOMB one, it sells for 5.99 @ Target). This method calls for back and forth side-to-side blending, which in my personal opinion is easier than blending a lot of colors higher on the lid. The pinks and purples I used were from the “Cherry Blossom” Quadriset from Harajuku Hunnies. I really blended this down, and didn’t really make them POP too much, since the main purpose of this video was teaching, but trust me, this is like PAM BAM WOW when you want it to be!
