Milani just launched a new product that I am completely excited by: Shadow Eyez. These are chubby pencils that can be used alone as eyeliner or shadow (though I prefer to use them as a base for powder eyeshadows). They are intended to last for 12 waterproof hours without creasing. I tested the green & the purple for 2 days and they held up, no creasing or smearing etc… though it’s worth noting that I also used primer. I also left the swatches on my hand for a number of hours, and there was only minor fading after being rinsed & rubbed with water.

Pardon my product-fangirl gushing:

The colors are bright, the hues themselves appeal to me, they glide on the skin like butter with high color payoff, wear like iron, bendable at first application but once it sets there is no smudging or creasing. These dupe several similar high-end long-lasting shadow pencils, but come out ahead because they are inexpensive and available at drugstores/mass retailers.

I feel like I should always be able to find some flaw in a product. The only things I could think of is that the caps can be a bit loose or pop off if shoved on too quickly, so be careful. Such a minor complaint!

My Biggest issue with these is that it only comes in 6 colors, and that for now, these are a CVS exclusive. I talked to a rep for Milani and they said these should be online in May, and one would hope they’ll be hitting other drugstores soon.

The Bottom Line- This is an instant new fave for me: Inexpensive, great color payoff, wears wonderfully, and comes in both neutral and bright colors! I hope Milani will expand this line; maybe some glittery ones like their Liquif’eye auto propel pencils. I’m impressed with these and would highly recommend them ^_^

Milani Runway Eyes Eyeshadow and I have a history of misunderstanding each other, and I need to make a public apology. A few years back, Milani sold another type of single eyeshadow that either had a pearl or matte finish, and they were INCREDIBLE! I depotted most of mine and I keep them in my MAC palettes- they are the only non-mac shadows I have in my MAC palettes. I love those shadows. So when drugstores  replaced the old eyeshadows with these new Runway Eyes Eyeshadow, I balked- I outright refused to try them because of the glitter over-spray: for some reason I decided I was indignant that they could get rid of my fave drugstore shadow.

Fast-forward to the here and now. I love these- I can’t speak for the other colors in the range, but these three are pretty great. In fact I wore Peaches & Cream for a week straight- something I very rarely do. Yes, there is a glitter over spray, but the glitter also seems to runs though the pearl-finish. Applied dry these are sheer-medium, and great for lighter eye makeup, but when used wet, they are medium-full coverage and gorgeous.

The shadows are similar to Milani’s baked mineral shadows in that they are made in Italy and are baked onto terracotta tiles- which mean you can’t really depot them. Which brings me to my only real complaint- I really don’t like the packaging- its unecessarily bulky and a bit oblong, so they are a bit awkward to store. I wish they came in simpler packaging without the rounded sponge-brush combo, but hey, whatareyagonnado? These sell for 6.99 and you get 2.1g of product.

Glittery antique gold with an olive green base color. Wonderful color payoff, and ripe for a one-eyeshadow look.

Golden Touch

Cream-gold with gold shimmer. This one is a bit sheer, but because of that it works well for inner-corner highlight, and would also work well in the center of the eye to make it pop.

Peaches & Cream

Sheer-medium palest pink. Normally that description would not sound interesting to me, but the glitter in this, and the overall color reminds me of a discontinued MAC pigment called Fairylight. You can see in the swatches that the glitter is silver, pink & purple. Gorgeous. I consider this one of my go-to lid colors for lazy days when I still want to look fab!

Overall, I’m surprised and delighted by how much I like theses I love it when I’m wrong and I end up loving something!

Today I’m sharing a Swatchapalooza & review  of the Milani  Baked Eyeshadow “Marble”. These are part of the regular line up available at Drugstores and Massmarket reatailers (such as Target, Walmart, etc) and also on Milani’s own website.

According to the Milani website:

Captivating eyeshadow powder that features multiple infusion of colors baked on Italian terracotta tiles. All of these gorgeous combinations are designed to be used Wet or Dry.

In my opinion, these are for the most part high-quality baked shadows that rival the baked mineral eyeshadows I’ve seen/used from high-end companies. Though these are not officially called Mineral eyeshadows, they look similar and in fact these are made in Italy, as are most  (if not all) baked mineral shadows from high-end companies. Like most mineral/baked eyeshadows I’ve used, these have a medium-sheer color payoff when used dry, But when used wet the color payoff is much more intense, and in the case of these Marble shadows the glitter stands out more. The lighter shades seem sheerer,  and the glitter is too similar to the base color to stand out so they simply look a bit chunky. The darker shades preform much better, most likely because glitter shows up more obviously against a dark background. There is quite  a bit of fall-out all around (no doubt due to the glitter).  The colors themselves are excellent and all can be worn as bold or as subdued manner if you like. I have 5 of the 6 Marble shadows to share with you (I’m missing Medley, the black & silver one).

The packaging on these leaves something to be desired; The shadow is housed in a rather large compact with a  metallic bottom and a clear, rounded top; The applicator is useless, and in my opinion only makes the compact bulkier than it needs to be (Although it’s worth mentioning that most drugstore brands include unfortunate applicators/brushes, and that the inclusion of applicators makes the packaging bulky). When I first got these some were a bit difficult to open, though now they open with ease. In any case the product inside is great and that’s the whole reason you buy them anyway.

Here’s a breakdown of the 5 colors I have:

Melange- Shimmering black with gold and copper sparkle/glitter. Inglot AMC 64 has a matte base and larger glitter particles; MAC Velvet Lady(LE, 2007)  is blacker with sparse, larger glitter flecks. This works well as a crease/outer lid color, as a liner, or on the lid for a smoky eye., nicely pigmented used dry and very intense used wet.

Drench in Gold- Blonde-wheat gold. Very shimmery/sparkly and a bit sheer, very similar to MAC’s New Vegas Mineralize Skinfinish (LE, 2007), this works well has a gold highlight all over the face.

Intermix- shimmering  beige-tan with gold shimmer. Less intense compared to MAC Bronze eyeshadow. This one is slightly sheer weather applied wet or dry, though wet it works nice as a lid shade. This one and Fusion look so  similar when swatched it’s difficult for me to tell them apart.

Fusion- Shimmering beige-tan. Slightly deeper, and pinker compared to Intermix; less intense compared to MAC bronze. This one is slightly sheer weather applied wet or dry, though wet it works nice as a lid shade. Mix It Up- Black base with green/teal glitter. This is lighter and more uniform compared to MAC’s She Who Dares duo from Venomous Villains. In fact if you swirl both colors from that together this color is a near-dupe. When used wet, the MAC version has more of a micro-glitter sparkle effect where the Milani Version has more of a uniform metallic look. If you like dark,shimmery teal, GET THIS!!! This and Melange are my favorites, from both the Marble and the Metallic eyeshadows!

Milani has been a fave Drugstore/mass-market brand of mine for a long time, but I think a truer statement now is that they are just one of my fave brands period.  Milani always seems to come out with amazing products at a price point that is easy to swallow!

Hi Guys and Dolls! Today I’m sharing with you my swatches and thoughts on Lit Cosmetics! I love their glitters and I’ve had them for a while, but they were hiding in the back of a drawer-FOR SHAME! Anyway now that I’ve brought these bad boys out into the light I’m really digging them. I was going to do a simple beauty-tutorial this week but once I remembered how GORGEOUS these are I was completely inspired to do something a little spicier! Tutorial on my review-makeup coming very soon to a computer/smartphone near you!

Anywhoots- the folks at Lit Cosmetics love glitter. They sell about a grillion different colors, sizes and finishes. I must admit I’m still no pro at explaining the differences between the shapes/sizes/finishes, but so far I think my fave is the Metallic finish (Yoda is a Metallic for reference). I highly recommend checking out their site and e-flipping though their catalog of glitter goodness, if only for the Funk/Dance music (normally music on sites irritates me to no end, but their selections make me dance in my chair! I listened to Dancing Queen 4x today- it was glorious). Basically what I’m trying to tell you is that if you’re looking for a specific glitter they probably have it. The glitters sell for $12.95 a jar, which isn’t the cheapest, nor the most expensive I’ve seen glitter.

So it’s no secret that glitter doesn’t adhere well to dry skin. Luckily LIT sells a hardworking glitter base (which I used to the swatches above). It comes in a clear glass jar with a screw-off lid & an opening wide enough for a brush. I’m torn over how I feel about the packaging. On the one hand I love that it’s a glass jar and therefore recyclable. However because it’s so open you have two choices: pour some out ( bit awkward to do, and I seem to ALWAYS over-pour wasting it) or dip something in to get it out. I went into detail in my video about my thoughts on this so I won’t bore you here. Long story short I love the actual product and I think it works well, but I feel like the packaging could be improved (A dropper?) This sells for $22.95

They also sell a few brushes, I have the Liner ($15.95) & the Round($16.95) brushes.  The liner brush was too flimsy and the hairs splayed out so I don’t use that one, but the round brush is great; it’s a bit thicker so you have better control, the hairs still look brand new despite many many uses- and used with the Clearly Liquid Glitter Base and glitter it is the perfect applicator for instant glitter liner. I’ve also used this brush to apply water-activated cake liner along with the CLGB and I’ve liked the results.

What about the inevitable:  glitter fall-out? Lit sells a “Spark-L Duster”. Eh it’s really cute, and it does work, but I don’t feel it works any better than a kabuki brush with a little face powder. But it’s also pretty cheap($1.95) and comes for free in many of their kits.

And Finally, Lit sells a single eyeliner called Vanilla ( 17.95)- it’s a soft-white that’s not too stark and not drying at all so it works great as a base or in the waterline. I don’t think it’s intended for the water line, but what I’m telling ya, is that’s where I put it! It’s not too stark so I don’t walk around with that “Hi! I put white liner on my waterline” look.

Hey Guys and Dolls! So I jumped the gun and uploaded the video for this post before writing it out, and now I’m sitting here with bleach on my head…not well planned out. Here’s some awesome product pictures, swatches, and dupes!

Curvaceous LipGlass, Oh Oh Oh Luster Lipstick

Curvaceous Milky Dusty pink. It slightly settles into lines but in person it’s not even noticeable. I’ve seen this look good on NC15-NW45 skintones!

Oh Oh Oh Lipstick Sheer Berry/Plum with golden/Copper shimmer. Luster lipsticks are thin in texture, and are typically pretty sheer. They are also pretty moisturizing feeling and the sheerness makes them very attractive. This is like a little-sister to MAC’s “O” lipstick in the regular line.

Stunner Blush and Avenue Fluidline

Stunner is a light coral-pink thinking blue thoughts. It warm enough to work on many skintones, but it might be too light for very deep tones. I’d consider it Mocha and Fleur Power’s light-skinned baby.

Avenue is a very dark brown with lots of small glitter- more glitter than Blitz and Glitz Fluidline from the regular line.

Creamy Bisque is a soft off-white Frost eyeshadow with a almost pink sheen. It’s not very intense which is why is makes a fantastic highlight color for beauty makeup. It’s the Piner version of MAC’s Shroom eyeshadow in the regular line.

Moleskin is a must-have light to medium matte brown. It’s the just-right balance of gray, pink and yellow tinted tan and though you many use it different ways, it can work for anyone, as a lid color, crease color or highlight. It’s very similar to Wedge Eyeshadow from Mac’s regular line, but Moleskin has a better texture and color payoff, and is just a hair pinker.

Outre is a mustard-caramel, which sounds really nasty, but as an eyeshadow color it’s fabulous. To my eye this color is identical to the mustard-caramel in the Double Feature 4 duo (Side by side swatch below). This color is great as a crease or transitional color on people with a golden or olive skintones, though it can also work for deeper skintones. The closest thing in the regular line is Soba, though Soba is much browner, and has a slight shimmer.

Mythical is a metallic pink-copper,a nd as far as I’m concerned is a “better-than” dupe for MAC’s Mythology from the regular line.

Satin Taupe is a metallic silver brown taupe. It’s incredibly versatile and works on virtually every skin-tone though the effect changes (on me it’s very brown, but on a deeper skintone it looks a bit more silver. MAC Repromotes this thing like crazy, and while that’s a bit annoying, I don’t mind as long as it’s not a  quad where I’d want it but I already have it.

Carbonized is a shimmery chocolate black-brown. in the pan and swatched is seems to be a metallic warm chocolate brown but in use it tends to loose some of the shimmer and shifts to a cooler grey-brown. Incredibly usefula dn easy to blend.  there are no direct dupes, but if you want a shimmery warm brown in the regular line try Mulch.

Hi Guys and Dolls!  I’m so happy to finally be sharing the final video of my Sailor Moon series! This series has be such a HUGE part of my last few years on youtube. I know it lasted longer than maybe some of you think it should have, but I never wanted to so a Sailor Moon Series video just because I needed to get it done. I did each one as the inspiration came- like Frankie said I did it “My Way”. This series is special to me not just because I loved Sailor Moon so much growing up, but also because it shows my progress at a woman and as a makeup artist.  This is my journey from being a girl who just loved makeup and talked about it on youtube, to now a professional makeup artist working in TV. This morning I went though all the videos to create a playlist and add the links at the bottom of the post and I ended up watching bits of all of them: This series started when I was 23, a newlywed, living in the suburbs, and kind of in limbo, waiting for my life to begin but not too sure where to go with it. Shortly after I started the series I moved to the Bay Area (East Bay, give it up!) changed careers, and everything went sideways for a while, but in life you just have to put your big-girl panties on and get though it. While filming this series I’ve lived in 3 different cities, 4 apartments, been though some amazing highs and some yucky lows, worked at Costco, Sephora, MAC, and then my best/worst boss ever-ME, had multiple hair-color, cut and style changes, and though it all I’ve just been myself, whoever that happens to be at the moment: Silly, serious, instructional, tongue-tied. I really enjoyed creating these videos for you, and I hope you enjoyed them too.

Sailor Moon is a look that stumped me. I’ve had about 10 different types of looks I’ve toyed with and nothing really worked, or at least it didn’t seem right until I decided to so a primary-color look. I was thinking of what I could do special for this last video and crazy-star-studded contacts seemed to fit the bill.  I considered using glitter but with the contacts it was just too much torture for my poor peepers!  I hope you love this look and have enjoyed the series as much as I have.

*If you’re doing a Tutorial or a Face of the Day I’d like to have at least 2 photos of your look, one eye close-up and one full face. I know some of you may be camera-shy so I won’t be strict on this, but that is my preference. Also please don’t photo-shop yourself to death.  Editing out a blemish or stray brow hair is one thing but “over-shopping” shows a lack of self-confidence. Obviously for fashion posts, nail posts etc you don’t have to show a full-face

* For Tutorials, Nail art, Face of the day, or some other type I haven’t thought of, you must include a list of the products you used. We’ll want to recreate it so let us know what you used to make that magic!

*I’d prefer to only feature posts where you only use cruelty-free products because that is in keeping with the philosophy of my blog, HOWEVER I won’t disqualify you for using products from say, L’oreal. I know not everyone can find cruelty free products they can afford – teens especially may be inheriting mom’s cast-offs and in anycase I’m not here to pass judgment or tell you what to buy. Wait, what’s the point of my blog again? We’re getting off-topic….Anyway, I want to encourage “Use what you have/what you can get” but I want to know what YOU used- we can all GOOGLE for dupes if needed.

* For reviews I would like swatches of color-products like lipstick, eyeshadow, blush, eyeliner, etc… obviously you don’t need to swatch foundation, lotion etc…

* Quality is important. You will be a guest-writer for my blog so I’d like to maintain a certain level of quality- that said, it doesn’t have to be perfection! The main thing is that we want to be able to see what you did/what you’re doing. If your picture is blurry/terrible lighting we won’t be able to really see much. I think both Misschevious and temptalia have posts on photography if you need some pointers.

*If anything you use in your post was send for review consideration you must disclose- it’s the law and you will be held accountable if you don’t comply.

* The Complete Blog Post with an introduction,  pictures, list of Products, links to a video/youtube channel/blog-EVERYTHING needs to be sent in one tidy email to requests4cora@yahoo.com . I want to be able to read it, and then file it with my folder of future-features, and then when the time comes I can more or less just copy and paste it onto my blog. The easier you make this for me the more likely you’ll be selected

*If you forget something in your first email don’t stress, just re-send it.

* You can submit more than one post, but don’t Spam me with the same post over and over, or 3 posts a week. No one likes being bombarded.

*There’s not deadline:) You don’t have to use your most recent post. Submit what you are passionate about and whatever it is that makes you different.

As the title suggests I’m looking to start having guest bloggers here on VoT as a way to get exposure for some up-and-comers and also to get a little variety going on. YouTube/ the Blogosphere is a beauty community; we should all have a voice and I know there is so much under-appreciated talent out there! I’m subscribed to/read so many underrated Vloggers/Gurus/Goobers/Bloggers on YouTube and because the community is so saturated now I know it can be hard to get noticed these days. Also I want to mention that you don’t HAVE  to have a blog or a YouTube channel to be featured on my blog- in fact I’d LOVE to feature posts from just every day readers/viewers. There is some criteria that I will require in order to have your post used:

*In order to be considered you must submit the following:

Hi Guys and Dolls! Milani is dropping a bomb on us this month- limited edition goodies that are worth tracking down (or just buying on their website). These were sent to me for review, but I’ve been stalking every CVS in the area trying to find them so I could pick some up to giveaway, but I haven’t found any part of this “collection” anywhere! I know it’s only at Select CVS’ but Damn! I’ve been to 6 CVS stores: zip, nada, zilch. My suggestion is to buy these off the Milani Website. Paying for shipping sucks- I know, but these are pretty darn awesome especially for the price-point!

PAINT EYESHADOW PALETTE

This “Paint Palette” looks quite interesting in the pan- a rainbow of colors splotched around a white center. All the colors are matte and while they are quite bright, the hot pink is the only one I’d really call “Neon”. Swatched dry with no base they are a bit sheer, but ok for the price. However, if you use these with a sticky base (I used NYX “Milk” Jumbo Pencil) they are incredible! I feel that for the price the palette is worth the cost & the minor extra effort of using a base. I do wish you got an even amount of each color (I’d like more of the yellow in particular)

As you can see the pink was opaque with 2 coats, but the blue still was a bit sheer, so I’m not seeing the one-coat claim here. The pink was almost opaque with one but I’m a habitual 2-coater for smoothness. The finishes are a bit different, the blue is a shimmer, and the pink is a cream with a very fine shimmer just barely hinting at itself.

Purple Rush

Sorry my picture is a bit blurry, it does capture the color quite well. Someone at Milani loves purple because they do so many fantastic purple products! This one wasn’t quite opaque in 1 coat but it was closest any of the 3 came. I did a slightly thicker coat on my thumb and it was opaque in one coat This one is definitely on my short-list of fave purple polishes.

Also launched with this “collection” are 4 “Haute Flash” full-coverage lip glosses in shades that correspond with their existing “Lip Flash” gloss-pencils. I don’t have any of these on-hand to swatch for you, but as I understand it they are pretty incredible!
