New Sigma Stuff

Hi Guys and Dolls!

I know I already talked about the new Sigma brushes in a video, but  since I already took the pictures,  I don’t want them to go to waste. I was also sent their makeup line, so I figured I would review those as well:)

Here’s some shots of the ss197 and the ss187 for comparison/reference purposes.

Sigma SS197 (top) and SS187 (bottom)

Swatches of their eyeshadow and blush sets:

Please click on the picture to see in larger.

(grouped in fours) Neutral, Fun, and Smoky Eye quads, and the Blush & Highlight Quad

I was really excited to receive the makeup line, since so many people were saying they liked it, and whatnot. These shadows and blushes are sold in pretty generous portions, in little pre-matched kits, so it takes the guess work out of coordinating, and because they are quads they are easy to travel with. They have awesome names like “Start me up”, “Paint it Black”,  (Rolling Stones fan !?)

The Eyeshadows:

I knew from the get-go  from other reviews  that all the eyeshadows had some degree of shimmer, but I thought it would still be ok, since sometimes I like all shimmer, if the shimmer textures are different (Like, satin, frosty, glittery). Maybe I haven’t made this clear in the past, or maybe you’re new to the Peanut Gallery, but I’m a girl who needs balance with her eye makeup. I like differing colors, and textures.  While I’ll admit sometimes I use all shimmery eyeshadows of some form or another, generally they at least have some kind of differing textures.

With the exception of the black,  these all have the same shimmer texture. The eyeshadow is not pressed very hard, so it’s very soft, when you touch your brush to it, a lot flakes off not only wasting products & making a mess, but they have a lot of fall out. Just click on the picture above to enlarge it, and then enlarge it again to see all the fall out just in the swatches.

One other caveat I have with these is that the smoky eye one has a smell; a perfume-y/cheap cosmetic smell. They remind me of old lady department store makeup mixed with one of those Markwins palettes your Grammy would buy you.  While for some of you this is a non-issue, I really am turned off by the smell, and haven’t even attempted to use the smoky eye on my face, which is disappointing, since color& texture-wise, it’s my fave!.  Now you’re probably thinking I’m a freak that sniffs my eyeshadow, but I’m really not, they just smell that strongly.

My question is why even scent something that goes on the eye?

I have to say I’m pretty disappointed with the eyeshadows. It’s not really the colors that are the issue (I’ve been accused in the past of not liking neutrals, which is FAR from the truth. You should see me drool over the Too Faced Natural Eye Kit we sell at Sephora).  It’s just the texture & odor.  A few of them I do think are pretty so I will probably make like, a custom quad with the colors I do like.

The Blushes:

While these are also very powdery and 3 are really glittery, I like these. There is one matte in the bunch (YAY!) and it’s a pleasant pop of blue-pink bubble gum goodness!  Moonlight Mile is the softest, and it’s really fall out-y but it’s really pretty to dust over your face for a gold glow. Some Girls is the budget-friendly version of NAR’s Super Orgasm, and Ruby Tuesday is a great deep raspberry with shimmer. I guess that what didn’t work with the eyeshadows works well for the blushes!

These items were sent to me for review purposes. The opinions and views expressed are clearly my own and are not influenced my any company or individual. I hope Sigma will take my review to heart, and understand this is not meant to be a slam, I am only telling the 100% percent honest and frank truth and maybe my honestly will help them improve upon their makeup line in the future.

I really hope Sigma Makeup will improve the formulations, add new colors, textures, and continue to make their amazing makeup brushes! I hear they are coming out with new brushes! Is anyone else excited!

Thanks for stopping by my Peanut Gallery! Remember to be Bright, Bold, & Beautiful, Just Be yourself!

  1. I have the Too Faced Neutral eye kit! I both love and am disappointed by it. :( The instruction cards are nice and the brush/applicator actually works well for it’s small size should you choose to use it. I am in love with the quality of the shadow; no fall out, great pigment and goes on super smooth lasting all day. The top row I use daily as is or as a base/liner/brow fill in at least. The second row has a bit of glitter, almost too much, where as the top is matte all the way. I don’t use it as much and the third row is ALL glitter if you follow the tut. It’s so shiny and plastic looking, it’s just not cute, imo. I will def. be buying the top shadows in by themselves when this runs out! I love it much more than any of my other shadows!

  2. I am excited about the brushes. I bought the eye set and my application and blending have gotten so much better with those brushes. Really love them.

  3. Thank you for your honest review! I have been meaning to get these brushes & your HQ pics of it convinced me, next paycheck here they come!

On the eyeshadows, I was sent the sample one ‘Indian Girl’ and I actually loved it, I want to paint my whole face with it but I held myself back :)

  4. I had been eyeing up the neutral palette. I was wondering if you could give us an idea of which MAC shadows could be used as dupes for this palette??? Can’t wait to hear what you say :)

  7. Am I blind or are the sigma shadow sets not for sale yet? I have bought a couple of brush sets, but didn’t see any cosmetics for sale on their website? Would have already bought two of their palettes if they could only be found.
